Delicious Library 3 App Reviews

Great way to keep track of a library

I have been using Delicious Library since version 1, and I am very pleased with the app.

Been using this app since it was an application

Keeps getting easier to use; the free iOS scanner app is much more reliable (and uses a lot fewer batteries) than the Bluetooth scanner I bought way back when. I use this mostly to keep a record for insurance purposes, so I don’t refer to it much (just keep adding to it), but it does seem to be flexible in how you view and navigate your library’s contents.

Nice features but not reliable

This app has almost all the features I want for cataloging my books, CDs, etc., but do not rely on it for anything important. It craps out constantly when the database starts getting fairly large, and you can open it and find that a lot of your work from the previous sessions has disappeared. A bug fix release would be welcome. (I’m using Mac OS 10.10.3 with 16 GB of RAM.)

Finally installed Yosemite and can now use DL3

For me, I feel it’s not a great improvement over DL2, but remains the best looking library app. Overall good, but there are some shortcomings to me: * Now that it’s flatter, hovering the mouse over the items doesn’t make them tilt anymore. They would if I use a wood finish other than the flat one but then it doesn’t look good in Yosemite. * Scrolling is very laggy now, and I don’t know if it’s DL3’s fault or Yosemite’s. I have an SSD now too, so file access latency should be less of an issue. * Can’t backup to iCloud or Dropbox. Can’t publish to Facebook or Twitter either. * No iPhone/iPad companion app. I know they ran into legal trouble with Amazon last time, but they should try to work around it, maybe by not using synopsis or pictures.

Brilliant

I already loved Delicious Library but now with a smartphone based scanner it’s lightning fast and accurate

Great App, seemingly little support

First and above all else, I have to say that this app is awesome. I want that known before I share my complaints. I really do love this app, and while I gave it 5 stars, I WOULD give it 4.5 for the following reasons. Since updating to El Capitan, every time I open Delicious Library (henceforth “DL”), my shelves are not shown, nor is the sidebar scanner. It basically shows just the “Library” list. A bug I hope will be fixed soon. I haven’t seen an El Capitan update yet, and if there is one, there’s some issues unsolved. One other complaint was a bit of difficulty transferring my DL data from my old MacBook to my new one. The instructions are on the DL blog, and are from a few years ago, so there’s some important things that have changed that aren’t updated. I did receive email support from the developer, and the problem was solved. My final complain is that the data exporting could be a bit cleaner, and that I could just email myself essentially an image of my data. I also wish there was an iPhone app that synced when I connected the scanner so that I have at minimum a searchable list on my phone at all times of what books I have. Those things aside, this app is great. I’m just choosing to be very specific since it’s not an inexpensive app. It’s worth every penny, though. I’ve got a roughly 900 book library, as well as tons of movies. I also use it for my board games, of which I have quite a few as well. I’m a toy collector, and have considered giving it a shot at keeping track of all of those (everything still in the box, so barcodes are there and scannable). I love the data that is captured as far as library value, page count (though I wish it was exact and when in the hundreds of thousands, didn’t just round to the nearest thousand- that’s a pretty large margin). It’s cool seeing all the info, though. If you’ve got a lot of stuff to keep track of, this app is definitely for you.

Excellent Application

I have been a big fan of this application. Adding the iPhone scanner has greatly increased input speed. If there was some way of showing options on items that are not found. Overall a must have application for a large home inventory.

NICE!!

I havent had any problems with this app. I use it to catalog 800+ movies. The mobile app turns your iPhone into a scanner which is great. Sometimes it doesnt identify some older movies. It would be great if the mobile app did more than just scan so you could take your library on the go. I’m sure the monsters at Delicious Library will get around to even more great features. I’ve used the app to keep up with my chogokin collection. Keep up the good work guys. Looking forward to more.

Everything in its place

An easy and effective way of sorting your collection of movies, music and books. Have used this for several iterations and it just gets better and better. Barcode reader does a good job, provided you cut down in the glare of the plastic wrap — especially in the case of movies and CD’s. The alphabetized list is an easy way to find “I think I’ve got that” title. And a bookcase to satisfy just about any taste. Since I have almost 1,000 titles to sort out, this is very, very helpful.

The best way to manage your physical media collection.

This app is a wonder for anyone looking to catalog and track a physical media collection. It could not be any easier to add new items to your collection. Pair it with your iPhone, grab a stack and you’ll be scanning another item every couple of seconds (or use your Mac’s camera). It’s easy to add items that don’t have a barcode or the rare instance that the barcode can’t be matched. Want to look at just your movies? Just click the category. Want to look at your books? Click the category. Want to be able to view just the Batman graphic novels in your collection? Create a shelf and automatically add books with Batman in the title. Want to loan something out to a friend? Add their name and just drag items and never forget which of your friends has what. I cannot express how happy I am with this application.

Has been a solid performer for many years

I’ve been using Delicious Monster since version 1 and it has always been rock solid. I have over 2000 items in my library. The iPhone scanner is excellent.

Game collection management made extremely easy!

This program has made keeping track of my game collection a breeze, I can add things with the barcode scanner via my iMac camera, add covers directly from internet pictures if need be, sort everything exactly how I want it, it’s got a wonderful presentation and options, it’s very simple to use with a few minute learning curve. I bought my iMac primarily for this program, it’s one of the most useful tools I can imagine for my interests. If you’ve got a physical collection of some kind this is something you should absolutely look into, it changed my life.

iTunes Library Display Useless

The display of iTunes libraries is completely useless. I am running the latest version of El Capitan, have the latest iTunes version, set up normally. Yet, Delicious Library 3 will not display artwork properly, mistakes apps and books for albums and hangs repeatedly when trying to update artwork. It is completely useless. Adding movies and albums one at a time from your personal library works OK except that a number of scans repeatedly produce the wrong item, sometimes a movie for an album or the wrong album or nothing. Also, support warns you they may not respond to your concerns if it takes up their time since they don’t have the billions in resources Apple has. Apparently the money I paid for this app did not include support for their badly executed app.

Best Database Ever

I have had Delicious Library for many years. I now have Delicious Library 3. I love this application. Delicious Monster updates the app constantly so that it works all the time. Also, if I don’t remember how to do anything, all I have to do is write them a quick note, and I receive an immediate answer. I like their app, and I love their service. I did try one other database for my movies, but I did not like it as well as Delicious Library. I also like that I can make categories for books, software, whatever I need. If I cannot find the item on Amazon, I can enter information manually, and, what I also find easy and great, is the ability to import pictures of the item I putting into the database. Great app. Get it today!

daedalus

Have used forever. v1-v3. Great fun at first, then some rough patches duriung adolescence—v2 mostly. v3 has enough terrific features to outweigh the occasional hiccup (seems to take hours to add/edit shelves, for example, and the setting up/changing of details displayed in the list view is strangely difficult sometimes.) Use of iPad for scanning with WiFi is easy, fast, and profoundly convenient. Seems to handle about 2500 entries so far without stress or fatigue. Easily worth the dough I think.

Amazing and helpful app!

This really makes it easy to know what games I own or books that I need to read. I just hope they support more ways to add your items and new languages such as arabic.

Major Disappointment.

I just spent too much money on aplication that does not work on newest iMac, newest iPhone, with all upgrades necessary. Scaner is just a joke, for no apparent reason just refuse to work. Whole idea behid that particular app for me was possibility of scanning stuff, not adding manually. I downloaded simple Book Buddy that cost much less that this useless app and it works beautifully. So dissappointed in this malicious library.

It does its job, mostly.

Nice categorizer app… but a bit left to be desired with their tool for searching items on the internet. Trying to find the info on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and I keep getting some weird videogames info. Really? The most praised Star Trek and it cant find the info? Really frustrating.

Upgrade from 2 to 3 loses over 300 items

In my DL2 library I have 1085 items. I had seen issues in reviews regarding items not migrating, but had hoped the problem was either exagerated or resolved. Be very careful about upgrading to the latest version as losing items still happens when upgrading. I now have 739 items in my library after upgrading, with it indicating I have only 38 books, when in fact I know I have almost 200. In addition it shows items loaned out to people that were in fact returned and checked back in. I’m very disgusted with this upgrad as I do not want to have to go back through all of the items I’ve catalogued to get what is missing added back in. I may be asking for a refund on the purchase I just made. Update: It took over 2 weeks before support responded to my issue of lost items. Their suggestions have not worked. This is turning into a lot of trial and error attempts to get the data imported properly and a lot of time I don’t have to spare.

Really disappointed in this

For a personal database like this, which I need, I’m willing to put up with some clumsiness and slowness. But that it does not work as advertised is deeply frustrating. I paid for it, I’ll stick with it because there’s no worthwhile alternative, but I also paid for advertised functionality, which is not there. Problems: * Views don’t work. You get three selections, and yet nothing ever changes from bookshelf view, which is ugly and slow * iTunes library is bizarre—there’s no way to just see music, you get every iOS app you ever purchased as well. If you don’t need or want this, tough, that’s what you get. * Internally inconsistent: in your library, CDs are Type=Album, but if you want to filter albums, you need to use Type=Music. Did anyone proofread? * The interface for adding from Amazon, really using their data to import your own, is terrible. Type an item to name and what you actually get is search results from both Amazon and your library. If it’s in my library, why would I add it? And you can’t filter for type from the Amazon results, which is stupid. * Scanning with iPhone and importing doesn’t work. At least you don’t have to pay for the scanner app, because Delicious Library 3 doesn’t actually import. This is lazy, lazy, lazy software design and making, unprofessional. Yet not free.
